I have just received his renewal quote which is around £90 a month more than last year and Saga claimed they do a price match guarantee. My circumstances are still they same as they was last year. Nothing has changed for me or the second driver on the policy.

Any way I have been in contact with Saga for the past few days providing the details they requested for price match and they don't seem to want to price match the competitive quote I received from the co-operative car insurance.

The quote is decent, cheaper than Saga even when I add on extras such as courtesy car and we have also provided details for them to log in and see the quote and all details they requested for themselves but for some reason they want to stick with their high renewal quote.

Because of this I've decided to switch but before the switch we would like to know if there are any other insurers that would benefit me?

Everyone gives lower premiums to over 50s. Don't let the fact that they also sell to younger people put you off. I've never found Saga cheap for anything. Try http://www.aviva.co.uk/car and http://www.morethan.com/Pages/Products/Car/CarHomepage.aspx

Rias are also specialists in the older age group but they were as dear as Saga as far as I was concerned.

Age UK (the old Age Concern) charity have some interesting links and information on the web site and I found Liverpool Victoria fairly competitive. Be open minded with all the companies and not age specific but remember that car insurance has taken a huge hike this year with the new equality rules.

Saga are too big and got right up my nose with house insurance a couple of years ago. It went up every year and not just by a small amount either. We jumped ship and went to the Halifax and saved over £600 for a matched policy. Then this year a year after we left them they offered to renew at a really low price! So why could they not do it that way to start with,

The legal expenses cover was also not worth the paper it was written on either.

Bit late on this one but hey.Saga are expensive have never got a competitive quote from them,I believe they are in the same group of companies as the AA.Until this year I found Zurich competitive but they hiked my premiums up by over 20pc,am now with More than, for a 1600 ford focus estate 2 named drivers fully comp, one driver for business no breakdown cover but all the other add ons premium is about £250 pa,our second car is with them as well, separate policy same cover,at about the same cost.Forget the over 50 bit of bait and caution with price comparison sites as they are paid to guide you to insurers that pay them that bit extra.

Try http://www.topcashback.co.uk/cat/car-insurance/

Join it and they will credit any money you receive. They had a deal with Aviva of £80 cashback. Aviva was £60 less than my quote plus topcashback of £80 making a saving of £140. The Aviva deal has finished but there are other offers on.

This is genuine.

My insurance was doubled by the AA, so |I searched the internet and found a company which gave me a quote that was two and a half times cheaper for the same cover, and included Roadside assistance for free. Try 1st. Century Insurers.

There was no way the AA said they could match this quote.

Saga -- my BP has risen. They left us without transport in a rural area 2 miles from the nearest road, no buses to get to work for 3 months. They refused to pay for accident damage saying it was the car not the accident. Took them to an Ombudsman who authorised a senior Motor Engineer to go to the garage. In 5 minutes he said repair the car it was accident damage, and it was back on the road by 5pm.

The stress they caused was unbelievable. You cannot even contact their Head Office as it is in Gibraltar.

Grrrrrrrrrh.

We are with Churchill and find them very reasonable. Do a comparison on the following site.............
