You're not going to be able to buy private insurance that covers both of you on one policy.

The cost, is going to vary wildly, depending on each of your health, which coverages you choose, what deductibles you want, etc. It's REASONABLE for your mother's policy to run her somewhere between $300 and $800 a month, if she's got nothing seriously wrong, and isn't overweight. It's reasonable for YOUR plan to run somewhere between $100 and $400 a month, if YOU are in good health, not pregnant, and also not overweight.

You should consult an independent health insurance agent where you live who is familiar with plans in California. Or, you could call Kaiser Permanente for a family plan. Look for the nearest one.

The best plan for you may not be the best for your mom, and in any case, "the best" plans depend on your health needs and other issues. You need to speak to an insurance agent local to you, not strangers on the internet, if you are serious.

I have Anthem Blue Cross PPO 3500 HSA Compatible Plan. I have no idea if it is any good. I never use it. I pay just over $100 per month, but I am in my mid-30's. For your mother, it would cost a lot more.

There are several comparison sites but I liked this one to get quotes for free: HELP-INSURE.NET
